Two Swipe Tuesday -Body Awareness

Much of what I teach pertains to body awareness. We are constantly distracted from our own beings with news, media, deadlines, projects and more. One reason the fitness industry is so huge in this country is because most people are "too busy" for themselves. Their daily life does not entail anything that brings them within their own bodies or beings. That's why people are happy to pay large sums of money for gym memberships, personal trainers, martial arts classes, yoga etc. This hour or so per day is usually the only true "me time" people allow themselves to have.  

I'm not suggesting you quit your job or quit being a busy parent. But I'll give you a few tips on how to return to yourself and go within to find peace and relaxation.  

1. Go for a walk. Even if it's 5 minutes. Just do it. Notice the "buzz" going on around you (the visible buzz, audible buzz, smells and sensations) as if you didn't know the difference between a passing car and a thought that enteres your mind. This is a truly peaceful and "childlike" state.  

2. Journal. Write for 5 minutes when you wake up and or before bed. What you write about doesn't matter. Just write. This will allow you to be with yourself and allow your nervous system to relax.

3. Run a "self diagnostic". Just like a good computer runs diagnostics, you should run them on yourself. You can do this anytime anywhere. Where are you holding tension? Are you breathing shallow or deep and full? What shape is your body in? What do you feel? I do this many times throughout the day subconsciously. But before it can become a subconscious habit you will have to make a conscious effort!
